The best wedding venues in Newcastle

Newcastle has really come a long way from its roots as a ‘steel city’ and now the harbour and the city have been completely transformed. We are looking at the best wedding venues in Newcastle in today’s post and have chosen what we hope is a bit of a variety as well. Keep in mind Newcastle is a really amazing city and there are many more spectacular and noteworthy venues out there that we haven’t listed! These are venues that really stood out for us so we hope you enjoy this little trip around the best wedding venues in Newcastle.

Fort Scratchley

We included this one because it really is unique. Getting married not only in a historic fort but also taking in some of the best views Newcastle has to offer. Because the fort was meant to defend Newcastle against any threats from the ocean it is placed high up on the hill. You can have both your wedding ceremony and reception at Fort Scratchley. Keep in mind there are multiple ceremony and reception locations to choose from. You can find more information here.

Customs House Hotel

Down the hill from Fort Scratchley is the old Custom’s House. As the name suggests, this was where ship captains would have come to declare their cargo and file their paperwork with customs. Now it is an amazing venue for your wedding. They have three different venue rooms available, Customs Hall, which seats 180 guests, Harbourmasters Lounge which seats 60 guests and the smaller collectors room which seats 18 guests. More information is available here.

Merewether Surfhouse

If you are looking for an ultimate beach wedding destination then you really can’t go past Merewether Beach. The surfhouse itself is a stunning location popular with locals and visitors alike thanks to its amazing views. You can have anywhere from 40 through 350 guests so any size wedding works here. All events are held on the second level of the Merewether Surfhouse giving it a commanding view of the beach and ocean. More information is available here.

48 Watt Street

Situated in the heart of Newcastle, “48 Watt Street” is a beautiful historical building converted into a modern venue centre. Dating back to the early 1900s, this beautiful former church building maintains its stunning features such as high vaulted ceilings and stained glassed windows while providing modern airconditioned spaces for your wedding. Multiple spaces are available, from the large Main Hall, the Well and the Atrium, you’ll find your dream space. More information is available here.

Scratchley’s on the Wharf

Scratchley’s (not to be confused with the Fort mentioned earlier) is a stunning yet interestingly designed building that sits perched right on Newcastle harbour. Featuring scrumptious modern Australian cuisine as well as an amazing setting on the harbour, Scratchley’s has a few options for couples looking for a venue. Battlesticks Bar requires a minimum of 90 guests but accommodates up to 120, alternatively the Elkie and Zachary rooms combine to allow you up to 50 guests. You can also hold smaller weddings of 20-32 guests in the Elkie Room. More information is available here.

Thanks for reading our guide to the best wedding venues in Newcastle. They are in no particular order and we know there are many other amazing Newcastle venues out there but we know these really stand out plus many of our wedding invite customers have had weddings at these venues before.
